Rumours have emerged that Sony Ericsson is working on a successor to the Xperia X1, the X2. According to Harold de Kort, SE Marketing Communications Manager for Benelux in a twitter message, he responded to a query about the future of the Xperia with, "Of course, after each X1 comes X2, X3, X4 and X5. What else is new."
Observers say, however, that the X3 and X4 models will not appear. Apparently, the reason the company may skip X3 and X4 altogether is more down to social concerns than the failing of advanced prototypes or technological advances. Apparently, the No.4 is unlucky in some Asiatic cultures which might put off those particular peoples. In addition, X3 is frowned upon if you happen to live in Russia and partake in either SMS or Twitter. It translates as 'who the f... knows'. Then there are other concerns that the Roman Numeral X plus 3 adds up to 13 which is not particularly lucky in Western cultures. It's amazing any mobile phone receives any name at all nowadays.
