Microsoft mobile phone - back on?

The on-going rumours of a new mobile phone from Microsoft have resurfaced with talk of a design that is currently code-named Pink. The reason for the continuing reports of a new Microsoft handset follows Microsoft's growing realisation that, as a company, it has lost impetus in the mobile market to both Apple with its iPhone and Google with its Android and that, despite its importance to the market as a supplier of the Windows Mobile operating system and the fact that a new version is on the way, there is very little buzz about the company of late, according to the Wall St. Journal website.

A new phone carrying the Microsoft brand-name - despite the reports that such a phone would be built by a third-party company - would provide more opportunities for Microsoft such as the ability to feature the Microsoft's Marketplace, an area that includes a wide variety of apps, structured in a similar manner to Apple's app facility, on the new design.
