Google CEO: Android doing awesome

Google Inc. CEO Eric Schmidt predicts a strong year for the company's open-source phone operating system Android, saying that new announcements of Android partnerships with phone manufacturers and networks will be "quite significant".

Computer World also reports that the Android OS will be put on more netbooks and mobile internet devices this year, without "Google's prodding," he said.

Apparently Asustek are working on an Eee PC netbook running Android, along with some other Taiwanese manufacturers. It could even topple Microsoft's Windows XP as OS du jour, on netbooks at least, though we're also pretty excited about the upcoming Windows 7, a massive improve on XP (let's just not mention Vista, said the execs).
