Nokia has unveiled a new mobile phone service for the UK that will allow you to point your mobile's camera at an object and then to receive information and services relating to it. The service is in beta testing at present and will initially be confined to films. However, as an open platform, third parties will be encouraged to integrate their own services and utilities to widen Point & Find's abilities, according to the Intomobile website.
In use, when you point your camera phone at an object, the phone not only uses the camera but also its built-in Internet and GPS capabilities. The system also has bar code reading abilities. The phone then searches a database of virtual tags, identifies the object and the returns a set of links to the user.
A final release date for the service has yet to be announced.
