HTC unveils Snap mobile phone

After the recent rash of leaked stories regarding new smartphones HTC has announced another model out of the blue, at the CTIA 09 show, that looks like it will go head-to-head with the popular Blackberry handsets. To be known as the Snap, the handset is presented in a slim chassis measuring only 12mm thick with a full QWERTY keyboard for email and texting.


Based on a Qualcomm MSM 7225 CPU running at 528Mhz, the new phone will run on top of the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system backed by 256MB ROM and 192MB of RAM, although there is support for more external memory via an included microSD slot.


The screen spans 2.4in, according to the Mobile Whack website, offering QVGA resolution and packing in 320 x 240 pixels.


Providing HSDPA / WCDMA 900 / 2100 MHz or HSDPA / WCDMA 850 / 1900 MHz data transfer, the Snap will also include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR and GPS/aGPS.


There are currently no details regarding UK price or distribution.
