Samsung sure is a busy little phone company. Hot on the heels of the sleek midrange Lucido comes the first solar-powered touch-screen handset, romantically named ‘Blue Earth'.
A solar panel on the back of the phone harnesses sunlight and converts it to electric power, and the phone itself is made from recycled plastic for extra greenie points. It is also free from the usual toxic compounds found in phones - brominated flame retardants, beryllium and phthalate.
There's an eco-mode for energy saving measures like reducing screen brightness, backlight duration and Bluetooth, and ‘eco-walk' where a pedometer measures your steps and calculates how much CO2 emission you've just saved by eschewing motor transport.
‘Blue Earth' even comes in recycled paper packaging and a 5-star-rated energy efficient charger. Yes, the phone is greener than you'll ever be. Available in the second half of the year.
