First Symbian Foundation smartphones out end 2009

Google's much-hyped, app-friendly operating system Android will have a rival soon.


Nokia's answer to the open-source OS will be out by year end. The open-source Symbian^2 will be ready for shipping on handsets by year end, according to a report by Symbian Foundation CTO David Wood.


The group plans to release two platforms a year, with Symbian^3 to be ready by mid-2010, and Symbian^4 in early 2011. No, we have no idea about the ‘^' but it looks pleasingly mathematical.
