Vodafone may replace default Google search engine with Yahoo

Vodafone is rumoured to be considering replacing is default search engine - a position currently filled by Google - with the competing Yahoo! service.

The current contract with Google is reported to be nearing its close this year, and reports say that there has been no movement by the executives within Vodafone to renew the Google agreement. According to the Unwired website, Vodafone is currently in the middle of talks with Google's principle competing search engine, Yahoo! However, observers have said that a final contract has yet to be signed.

Yahoo! has already succeeded in achieving an agreement with T-Mobile during 2008, which it added to its O2 contract. Observers are musing on a possible Yahoo! contract with Vodafone because the Google Android phone, the HTC Magic, which Vodafone is due to sell, may feature Yahoo! instead of Google.

We will keep you posted regarding any contract updates.
