Ryanair launches mobile phone service

Of course, it'll start off prohibitively expensive, but low-cost airline Ryanair plans to roll out technology that will allow passengers to make mobile phone calls on all its planes.

They've launched the in-flight mobile service on 20 planes already, where passengers can make and receive calls at between £1.50 and £3 a minute (shudder), with text messages at 40p, and email between £1 and £2.

These tariffs are set by the operators and are subject to each customer's price plan. The service is initially available to O2 customers along with 50 other operators across Europe.
