Samsung was also making news at the new Mobile World Congress for a mobile phone that wasn't unveiled. Prior to the launch of the new show, many observers believed that Samsung was about to announce the launch of a new mobile phone based upon the Android operating system.
Speaking to the Guardian website, Younghee Lee, head of marketing at Samsung's mobile device division, said there will be no Android phone at the show, but they are "planning internally" for a release in the second half of the year. Lee did declare that the company is in talks with a range of operators about handling a future mobile phone based on the Android software.
Samsung, which recently rose to the top of the sales tables to become the UK's market leader, has seen the G1 Android phone make a disappointing entry into the UK market with poor sales over the pre-Christmas period.
