They're calling them nüvifones, and Garmin actually announced one of these devices around this time last year. You may remember the rather large, rubbery touch-screen phone with sat-nav capabilities - well, the Garmin-Asus team are going to re-release it sometime in Q2 and brand it as the Garmin-Asus nüvifone G60.
The nüvifone series will feature voice-prompted navigation features, with preloaded maps and millions of points of interest. It'll also come with Ciao!, a social networking app that integrates other location-based social networks so that no matter which network your friends/objects of obsession are on, you'll be alerted when they enter your area.
Expect a whole series of handsets to be announced this year. And as both the tech monoliths are members of Google's Open Handset Alliance, we're looking forward to plenty that run the Android OS too.
