Apple is possibly feeling more pressure than ever, now that Palm has announced its Pre mobile phone. Why? Maybe it's because the Pre utilises a multi-touch user interface? Or maybe it's because the man behind the design of the Pre is an ex-Apple head of hardware engineering, Jon Rubenstein.
Then there were recent words from the acting CEO, Tim Cook (Steve Jobs has taken leave because of health problems). According to the Digital Daily website, Cook was quoted as saying that, "We like competition, as long as they don't rip off our IP (iPhone), and if they do, we're going to go after anybody that does....We will not stand for having our IP ripped off and we'll use whatever weapons we have at our disposal [to make sure that doesn't happen]. I don't know that I can be more clear than that."
Palm, in response, declared that it it wouldn't be bullied by words and was quite capable of defending itself. Does the war start here?
