Rumoured Next-Gen Windows Mobile Smartphones available late 2009

Two Windows Mobile stories in one day? Someone on the press team is gunning for employee of the month, we thinks. Anyway, buzzing around the news of Microsoft's next-gen mobile operating system Windows Mobile 6.5, is the almost-kind-of-substantiated rumour that we'll be seeing the first handsets powered by the OS in Q3 this year.

According to tech site Digitimes, Microsoft will start delivering WinMo 6.5 to Taiwanese phone manufacturers mid-year, following the unveiling of the operating system at next month's Mobile World Congress.

Sources at Taiwanese handset makers also say that while some of these new smartphones will land in the market in Q3, most manufacturers will probably launch their 6.5 handsets in Q4 to target the year-end shopping season.
