Blackberrys from McCain-Palin campaign bought

Reporters from the Fox 5 website, a spin-off from the news gathering Fox TV network in the USA, heard that, to grab back some of the money lost by the failed McCain-Palin campaign, the organisation was selling off much of its infrastructure. This included a batch of Blackberry mobile phones without chargers or batteries. Bought for $20 each by Fox journalists, the handsets were found to contains hundreds of private emails and contact details of politicians, campaign members and more.

"Somebody made a mistake," one owner told Fox 5 regarding the exposure if the confidential information.  "People's numbers and addresses were supposed to be erased."

"They should have wiped that stuff out," another said.  But he added, "Given the way the campaign was run, this is not a surprise."

Fox 5 called the McCain-Palin campaign, who said, "It was an unfortunate staff error and procedures are being put in place to ensure all information is secure."
