A new App has been released for the Apple iPhone mobile phone. Called Amazon Remembers, the program is an aggressive attempt by Amazon to target the High St. head on and will, we are sure, cause some measure of disquiet if not outright alarm to all High St. retailers.
The App, which sits on your Apple iPhone, allows you to walk into a High St. store then, when you spot something you might wish to purchase, you take a picture of the item, then send that picture to Amazon, according to the Information Week website. Amazon then tries to find that very same item for you - at a better price, no doubt - then it stores it for you ready for you to purchase from Amazon. The bare faced cheek, eh?
"We designed the Amazon app to be a quick and easy way for iPhone and iPod Touch users to shop, browse, and buy with Amazon," Sam Hall, director of Amazon Mobile, said. "Customers can build visual lists of things they want to remember, buy or even learn more about."
