Better known for producing stylish sports cars, Porsche has turned its attention to the mobile phone market with its launch of the P'9522 handset.
Made from a solid aluminium block with a single sheet of scratch-proof glass, the P'9522 sports a 2.8-inch AMOLED touch-screen that promises a vivid and vibrant display. While there is no HSDPA, the device sports Wi-Fi and built-in GPS. The phone also has a five-megapixel camera, complete with integrated flash and digital zoom, and an MP3 music player.
The handset's standout feature is the fingerprint sensor. Users can secure their phone so that it can only be accessed if their fingerprint is used. You can even set the phone up so that individual digits open a particular application. For example, scan the ring finger on your right hand to open the camera mode, or your left thumb to start your music player.
With the Porsche brand behind the phone, the P'9522 was never going to be cheap – it carries an estimated retail price of between £600 and £800. However, there is talk about the phone being available on contract so the price may fall dramatically. The Porsche device will be available to buy from Harrods, Selfridges, Porsche Design stores and Allders.
