Microsoft Windows Mobile users can now track the whereabouts of family and friends. Palringo, an instant messaging application has added live local information to their service, called Palringo Local. Should users so wish, they can display their location to contacts alongside their status.
While the service will only provide a rough estimate of a person's location (the area of town is more likely than the actual street they are on), it could prove useful when meeting a friend or even helping you decide whether calling someone will incur roaming charges if they are abroad.
Although Palringo Local is currently only available on Windows Mobile devices, it will be available on Symbian based phones, the BlackBerry and the iPhone before the end of the year.
Palringo integrates itself with AOL Instant Messenger, Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Live.
Palringo is available from http://www.palringo.com/ and is free to download with no subscriptions or hidden charges.
