Sonim has announced that it will soon release a new Toughphone to be known as the XP3.
Initially to be released in the USA, the handset will be a quad-band EDGE, GSM phone. For those requiring location finding, GPS will be included along with Bluetooth for external, short range wireless accessories. There will also be a torch mode. Speaking of glare, the mobile phone has a glare-resistant 128x160, 65k-colour screen.
Running the Opera browser software, the handset will include a built in camera. Sources say that the specification will reach 3MP and will include geo tagging plus a speakerphone.
The handset also comes with a 3 year guarantee. No matter what you do to the phone, if you do happen to break the thing, you wil receive a new replacement, according to the Gearlog website which also quoted Sonim's CEO, Bob Plaschke, who said it can actually run at temperatures down to -40 degrees and survive a 9-foot drop. It's impervious to almost anything, including "micro-particles." It has 2.5 days of talk time and a pretty impressive 2 months of standby on its mighty 2200 mAh battery.
