Sagem to bow out of the mobile market

The Sagem brand, as an independent name, which has been present throughout the life of the mobile phone market, is to disappear from the industry by the end of the year.

The reason for the removal of the brand from the mobile scene, according to the GSM Helpdesk website, is that its owner, Safran, has closed down its mobile phone division from the end of July and sold it to the investment company Sofinnova.

The name itself, however, will not disappear entirely. Sofinnova, which also acts as a hardware distributor, will arrange for the Sagem brand to be associated with a range of new projects on an OEM basis. The first fruits of that arrangement can already be seen with the announcement of a new Porsche mobile phone. Covered here in our story on 1st October - click below for more information.
