Acer, a long-term manufacturer of both PCs and laptops, is reported to be about to enter the mobile phone market with the launch of a range of its own handsets. The new range of phones is apparantly due to enter the High St. during the first quarter of next year, according to insiders.
Speaking to the Digitimes website, Jim Wong, senior corporate vice president and president of IT product business group at Acer, commented that,"Leveraging on its global channels and market share in the global PC market, Acer expects the handset business to be a growth driver within three years."
In addition to general growth, the company also sees this as a method for the company itself to grow in general terms. To such an extent, says reports, that the outfit is expecting to have to employ an extra 500 staff members to cope with the new business.
