Sony Ericsson unveils GPS dongle

Sony Ericsson has launched two USB modems for laptop users who need to access the internet and email when on the move, including one with in-built GPS. The manufacturer's brace of dongles both offer HSPA data speeds of up to 7.2Mbps for downloads and 2Mbps for uploads.

Both USB modems, the MD400 and the MD400G, feature a M2 Memory Stick Micro and a microSD slot, so you can download and store documents and files as you would with a USB storage device.

The MD400G also carries an in-built GPS receiver which can link directly to Google Maps and mark a user's current location.

Sony Ericsson says the modems also sport a swivel 'diversity' antenna which helps to maximise reception performance and boost data transmission. Meanwhile, the dongle is designed to allow the swivel antenna to protect the retractable USB connector when the modem is not in use.
