In tandem with the launch of the iPhone 3G, O2 has announced that even more Wi-Fi hotspots will be available to their customers. O2's new deal with BT Openzone is in addition to their existing arrangement with The Cloud meaning over 9,000 Wi-Fi hotspots will be available to all O2 customers who have a Wi-Fi enabled device.
O2's arrangement with BT Openzone begins on the 11 July, which just so happens to be the day Apple's much anticipated iPhone 3G goes on-sale. All iPhone users, be it the standard or 3G version will receive unlimited access to these public Wi-Fi hotspots as part of their monthly tariff for no extra cost, though each tariff will be subject to an excessive use policy.
As soon as an O2 customer enters either a Cloud or BT Openzone hotspot, their device will automatically and seamlessly switch to using Wi-Fi, providing a fast and cheaper alternative to surfing the web.
