Mobile Choice has spotted that 3 is now offering 6 month contract deals on selected handsets. Despite the information being well hidden in 3's website, we think the declaration is the best news mobile customers have received all year.
Indeed, the 'news' is barely mentioned within a small graphic flash on the corner of a qualifying handset - that and in half hidden small print at the bottom of the screen which includes the words, "6 month minimum term contract offer...". Even then, the company doesn't officially call it a 6 month contract. It says that you have to buy an 18 month contract but that the offer provides a 6 month minimum term. So, after 6 months, you can go elsewhere. That, to us, sounds like a 6 month contract.
In response, 3 commented: "We believe in offering our customers the widest choice when it comes to contract length. That is why we offer brilliant 12 month deals with unlimited texts and a great range of handsets. We also offer 18 month contracts with a minimum commitment term of 6 months on a range of basic entry level handsets.
How we communicate to our customers is a top priority for us and we are undertaking a review of the consumers' purchase journey. This will include amendments to terminology referring to 18 month contracts with a 6 month minimum term to ensure clarity and consistency, as well as ensuring that the purchase experience is a clear and easy to follow process."
3 is also introducing a range of line rental discounts on both the LG Viewty and Sony Ericsson W910. Our Mobile Daily Deal team will be examining each closely over the coming days,
