Palm is proving to cynics that smartphones with QWERTY keypads can be popular with consumers as well as business users, if US sales are an indication.
Palm, which launched the Centro in the UK in early 2008, has sold its millionth Centro smartphone in the US, a move company officials attribute to its price tag. The phone, which launched in the US in September 2007, accounted for 11 percent of all domestic mobile phone sales that year, according to Palm.
The Centro is currently sold in 10 countries worldwide, however, officials indicate there are plans to expand its reach to additional regions. Palm officials indicate as smartphones continue to expand outside of the business professional sector, they are seeing more young adults and women using the device.
