Speech recognition from Palm

Palm and Nuance Communications have struck an agreement to provide voice command capabilities to Palm OS supported smartphones like the Centro and the Treo.

And exactly who is Nuance? The company has a well deserved reputation in PC computer circles for its speech recognition, voice authentication, text-to-speech and VoiceXML based voice-browsing products.

As such, Palm has also announced some specific applications for the forthcoming technology. The company declared that it will be using Nuance's VSuite series of easy-to-use software programs.

This means that you will be able to order up a phone number or send any form of data via a message using voice commands. Other voice commands will be able to open your contacts list or an application on your phone. No release date for this application has been released.
