Slated for a summer 2008 release, Texas Instruments has developed a new chipset that can be utilised by mobile phone manufacturers to turn your mobile phone into a DLP projector. Called the Pico, the technology was declared ready to enter production at the 2008 Mobile World Congress Show in Barcelona.
Initially created with business users in mind - presentations on the move - the new chipset will also be an ideal partner to the new generation of multimedia smartphones, such as the Nokia N96, currently awaiting release. Imagine being able to project all those movies and music videos. A cinema in your pocket, indeed. Expect to see the fruits of the Pico chipset in a mobile handset near you during 2009.
