Napster and O2 launch mobile music download service

Rolled out this weekend, O2 customers will soon have access to more than five million music tracks, from contemporary to more obscure diverse music tastes. The partnership between Napster and O2 will see single tracks costing 99p (for an initial three-month promotional period), while five tracks can be bought for £4. When a purchase is made through the O2 Active portal the track is automatically downloaded to the customer's handset as well as their PC by sending the track to an email address of their choosing.

The service will initially be available through O2 Active on 30 different handsets with more to follow, although compatible handsets must have a built-in music player and mobile internet capabilities. As well as the track, customers will also receive full artist descriptions and imagery to both their phone and PC.

The partnership between Napster and O2 sees one of the world's most recognised digital music brands join forces with the UK's largest mobile portal.
