3 and O2 have launched EyeVibe, the UK's first cross-network social networking site. Subscribers that upload their mobile video clips will be paid in cash depending on how many times their clips are viewed. Customers can submit their clips via MMS to 60300. The cost of downloading a clip is 10p for 3 and O2 customers, while the cost for customers on other UK networks will vary depending on what tariff they are on, and when they upload and watch the videos.
EyeVibe is being launched with the help of Yospace, the company that helped develop both 3's SeeMeTV and O2's LookAtMe! mobile video community platforms that will effectively merge to form EyeVibe. By creating a service open to all UK networks, EyeVibe hopes to appeal to a larger audience. As well as uploading and watching video clips, members of the EyeVibe community will be able to message each other as well as vote and comment on their favourite clips. Both 3 and O2 are hoping that other networks will join the service in due course.
