3 unveils its Skypephone

But while 3's customers using the Skypephone will also be able to contact Skype's 246 million users for free, unlike Skype's PC customers, they will not benefit from cheap Skype-out calls to other mobile numbers. Those calls will be charged at 3's standard mobile rates.

The Skypephone looks a compact and neat handset which weighs just 86g and comes in a choice of black or white, with a blue or pink trim. The handset's stand-out feature is its dedicated Skype placed in the middle of the phone, which offers one-touch access to the Skype internet call service. The Skypephone has been developed by Skype and 3 together with Qualcomm and uses Qualcomm's BREW platform to enable Skype to work with the handset's other key features, like address book and messaging.

The Skypephone's features include: 3G; a 2-megapixel camera; MP3 player; mobile TV and internet; Bluetooth; 3D gaming; and a 262,000 colour display.

The Skypephone will be available from 2 November and will cost £50 on prepay and will be free on contract.
