Samsung announces G800 camera phone with optical zoom

The new G800 will be Samsung's second five megapixel camera phone to launch in the UK, following the Samsung G600, which landed in September.

However, while consumers have been clamouring for more megapixels from their camera phones, it's the inclusion of optical zoom that will really appeal to genuine camera buffs. The reason being, optical zoom (the real zoom) actually uses the lens of the camera to bring the subject closer, whereas digital zoom (artificial zoom) simply enlarges a portion of the image, losing image quality in the process.

In addition to optical zoom, the new Samsung G800 also offers high-end photo features like face detection and Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) plus Xenon flash and auto focus. Users can also take panoramic shots, multi shots and macro shots.

And if that's not enough for you, the G800 is HSDPA enabled and offers a full browser. This is some handset.
