Vodafone takes on CO2

With 90 million handsets being thrown away every year, Vodafone claims 65-85% of these can be recycled or reused for re-sale in lower income countries. Old handsets, along with any other phone accessories such as chargers, can be placed in the recycling bins found in all Vodafone stores. Alternatively customers can send their old handsets in the freepost envelope provided when they upgrade their phones.

Vodafone's green inititive is part of the Global Cool environmental campaign, endorsed by a host of celebrities including Kate Bosworth, Sienna Miller and Rosario Dawson. The aim is to reduce CO2 emissions and slow down global warming.

The scheme is open to everyone, not just Vodafone customers, with all funds raised being donated to Global Cool.
