Mobile printing by text

HP Labs has introduced a free service in which users can share, store and print documents by using their mobile phone. Users must at first 'print' their documents to CloudPrint, which can be downloaded from the CloudPrint website.

The service is really targeting smartphone users, who will most likely have devces which boast Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Each document that is downloaded is assigned a document code that is sent by text message to the your mobile phone. The documents can then be retrieved as a PDF by visiting the CloudPrint website and entering your phone number and document code. The documents can then be printed at any nearby printer.

At present the service is available in the US, Canada and Europe, although HP Labs is hopeful of making the service available to other parts of the world. The service is free, although users may be charged for the text message, depending on their phone tariff.
