3GSM: HP debuts its first iPAQ smartphone

HP has always lead the way in the PDA with its renowned iPAQ range, dabbling in the voice enabled PocketPC along the way. Now, after listening to its iPAQ fan base, HP is ready to unveil its first ever phone-orientated smartie.

The iPAQ 514 Voice Messenger is a sleek handset with a marathon 6.5 hours talktime and 7.8 days of standby juice, primed to last a long haul business trip without recharging. Also impressive is the iPAQ 514 Voice Messenger's Voice command features; reply to an email without typing, instead using its VoiceReply technology to send a voice response; have your email and text messages read out or activate applications through speech command.

As well as accessing all the new innovation on the new Windows Mobile 6 for Smartphone OS, the iPAQ 514 also comes with built-in Wi-Fi, is EDGE and quad-band-enabled, has push email capabilities, supports VoIP, and offers a MicroSD card slot and 64MB of internal memory for storage. Lastly, it features a 1.3-megapixel camera. The iPAQ 514 Voice Messenger will be available around Springtime with an initial SIM-free price of around £235.
