Samsung stays Ultra cool

The F300 (Ultra Music), F500 (Ultra Video) and i600 (Ultra Messaging) all maintain the range's signature thin profile.

The most intriguing of the trio has to be the F300. This music phone sports a unique dual-face design; one side features the music player controls and the other displays the phone interface. You can switch between the two via a side key. The music player has touch-sensitive keys and a large 2.1-inch, 262,000-colour screen. And with 100MB of internal memory and a microSD card, there's ample space for storing your music library. The phone side is a little less exciting. It features a tiny screen and a two-megapixel camera. Unfortunately, the F300 isn't 3G, instead supporting EDGE for relatively fast download speeds.

The F500 picture shows an external antenna but we're still in the dark as to its purpose. The information we've been given doesn't suggest it plays any form of mobile TV. Instead, it is the first mobile phone to support DivX video codec, and you can watch your video footage on the 2.4-inch QVGA-quality screen. The 3G-enabled device has an enormous 400MB of internal memory backed up by a microSD card, and a two-megapixel camera wraps things up.

The last Ultra phone, the i600, is the successor to the i320 smartphone. This Windows Mobile 5.0-powered phone motors along to HSDPA for blistering 1.8Mbps data transfer speeds and has a full QWERTY keyboard for rigorous email writing.

Connectivity is covered by built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth (A2DP) and USB, while a large 2.3-inch QVGA-quality display is ideal for internet surfing and reading lengthy messages. Other features include a microSD card slot, a 1.3-megapixel camera and a front-loaded VGA lens for video calling and conferencing.

Samsung has yet to announce a UK launch date.
