3 gets X rated in the home

The X-Series from 3, which launches in the UK on 1 December, enables customers with X-series handsets to make unlimited mobile calls at home using Skype, watch their mobile TV via their phone using Sling, access their home PC using Orb, and also access Internet and messaging services from the likes of Google and Yahoo.

The first two handsets to support the X-series service will be the Nokia N73 and Sony Ericsson W950i.

An X-series customer will be able to make and receive unlimited Skype calls with Skype PC users anywhere in the world, and free Skype calls to any other Skype 3 mobile customer.

3 customers who purchase a Slingbox will be able to watch anything they view on their own TV, including terrestrial, Freeview, cable and satellite TV via an X-series phone with built in Slingplayer software.

The Orb service enables X-series handset users to access the digital content you have stored on your PC at home, including music files, playlists, digital photos and videos.

Meanwhile, X-series handset owners will also will also be able to send instant messages to or from Windows Live Messenger or Yahoo! Messenger for free and search the Internet using a Google or Yahoo search engine for free.

According to 3, the X-series service will be priced at a flat rate like fixed line broadband and will offer use of mobile Internet services for free. Customers will be charged for the X-series service on top of their basic subscription.
