Virgin launches broadcast TV

Since going live on 1 October, the virtual operator's customers have been able to watch Virgin Mobile TV on the distinctive new Lobster 700 TV phone, which boasts an ergonomic, curved finish and a dedicated TV button. As well as the television channels, the wittily nicknamed 'telly-phone' can also receive 30 to 50 DAB digital radio stations.

The DAB-based mobile TV service, which is provided by BT's wholesale mobile broadcast entertainment service BT Movio, features a seven-day electronic programme guide (EPG), and an interactive red button service.

Virgin Mobile customers on a contract costing £25 per month or more will be able to get the TV phone and service free, while prepay customers will have to pay £199 for the handset and then £5 per month after a free three-month trial period.

The Microsoft Windows Mobile-powered Lobster 700 TV phone is available from Virgin Mobile stores within Virgin Megastores and WHSmith, its standalone stores and from www.virginmobile.com/mobile. The TV phone launch will be bolstered by an ad campaign starring none other than Pamela Anderson.
