Virgin launches broadcast TV

Since going live on 1 October, the virtual operator's customers have been able to watch Virgin Mobile TV on the distinctive new Lobster 700 TV phone, which boasts an ergonomic, curved finish and a dedicated TV button. As well as the television channels, the wittily nicknamed 'telly-phone' can also receive 30 to 50 DAB digital radio stations.

The DAB-based mobile TV service, which is provided by BT's wholesale mobile broadcast entertainment service BT Movio, features a seven-day electronic programme guide (EPG), and an interactive red button service.

Virgin Mobile customers on a contract costing £25 per month or more will be able to get the TV phone and service free, while prepay customers will have to pay £199 for the handset and then £5 per month after a free three-month trial period.

The Microsoft Windows Mobile-powered Lobster 700 TV phone is available from Virgin Mobile stores within Virgin Megastores and WHSmith, its standalone stores and from The TV phone launch will be bolstered by an ad campaign starring none other than Pamela Anderson.
