It's been a gruelling week, so it's time to unwind!
It's been a gruelling week filled with hardcore exercise and healthy eating – and since it's Friday, let's just skip that early morning jog and relax instead, eh? And if you feel bad about putting your feet up, just smother the guilt and trick yourself into thinking you’re training with these sporty phone games. They’ll give your thumbs a damn good workout after all.
First up is NBA Jam (Android and iOS, £2.99), an iPhone/iPad version of the classic basketball game. It’s arcade gameplay all the way, with cartoony characters who can actually ignite if they’re playing well. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face, even if the controls aren’t quite perfect.
If you’re after a more sedate sport, may we recommend Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 (iOS, 69p), a marvellous and surprisingly cheap golfing sim. Graphics are crisp and the controls are excellent, giving you full control over the power and direction of each shot. If you’re like us, you’ll have whiled away an entire afternoon completing a course without even realising it.
Footy fans have plenty of apps to choose from, but we’re big fans of Flick Kick Football (Android and iOS, 69p), which challenges you to take the perfect free kick from a number of different positions. Scoring from a tricky angle makes you feel like Ronaldo, and there are plenty of great training and timed modes to test your skills.
If you value your social life, then do not download New Star Soccer (Android and iOS, 69p) – this game is so addictive it’ll turn you into a recluse. A unique blend of sports action and RPG, you steer a striker through his career, scoring as many goals as possible while managing your life off the pitch. The graphics are seriously retro, but after a minute you won’t even notice.
Finally, if you’re after some mindless arcade action, iStunt 2 (Android, iOS and Windows Phone, Free-69p depending on OS) certainly does the job. Jump and duck your way through tons of snowboarding levels, dodging the rather bizarrely scattered buzzsaws and other obstacles, all the while pulling off tricks and grinds. It’s nothing revolutionary but a good way to kill a few minutes while waiting for the bus.
Thanks for taking part in Mobile Choice's Fitness Week, we hope you survived and aren't walking like a zombie, like us...and if you missed any of the week's shenanigans, you can see our full set of app reviews here!
